Join us for a free, fun-filled improv and clowning workshop for ages 7-12 as part of Family Fun Day at Catskills Junction, organized by Community Music Network. In this workshop students will play theater games to explore character physicality, scene-creation, and find the fun through clowning exercises. All experience levels welcome for this free workshop led by improviser, actor, and Hill People’s Comedy Fest organizer Marisa Caruso.

  • About Marisa Caruso: Marisa Caruso is an actor, producer, comedian, and educator.  The founder/organizer of the Hill People’s Comedy Fest, she is one third of Gimlick Comedy, Managing Director of Torn Space Theater and a co-producer of The Party Theater, Page to Stage, and lbs/sq” Performance. Marisa is a frequent collaborator/instructor of Western Catskills theater activities for folks of all ages.

Mia Jackson

  • Mia Jackson a native of Columbus, GA started her stand up career in Atlanta. Now living in New York, Mia performs regularly at The Comedy Cellar when not on the road. In 2022, she was one of the openers for Amy Schumer’s tour.

    She has written for Life & Beth (Hulu) and I Love Us (BET+). Her first original comedy pilot, Aim Higher, sold to Warner Brothers in 2021. A true multi-hyphenate, Mia’s delightful Georgia accent landed her a voiceover role as the narrator for My Celebrity Dream Wedding (VH1). Her second half hour special premiered on Comedy Central in Nov 2019 and her stand up has been featured on This Week at The Comedy Cellar (Comedy Central). Mia is smart, funny, relatable and versatile. Her endearing comedy and bright attitude entertains all types of crowds.

  • Born in Tokyo, Japan, Aiko is a stand-up comedian, actress and TV personality. She first appeared in the theatrical film The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

Matt Vita

  • Matt Vita (CBS, AMAZON PRIME, VERMONT COMEDY FESTIVAL CO-FOUNDER) is a NYC-based comedian who regularly performs at top clubs such as New York Comedy Club and Atlantic City Comedy Club. Also an award-winning freestyle rapper, he has shared the stage with hip hop legends such as Rahzel. In 2023 Matt began hitting the road regularly and has headlined clubs from Canada down to Florida, touring in a RAV4 with a broken radio which gave him a lot of time to ponder the absurdities of life and all the fun things he’s done- like open for Colin Quinn and appear on television with Queen Latifa. In 2025 Matt continues to tour and he was recently asked to open for part of comedy legend Kevin McDonald’s East Coast Tour. James Tanford

  • James Tanford is a New York-based comedian and writer whose vulnerable and self-effacing stories cover everything from his wealthy childhood to his rec league basketball team. Bobby Curious

  • Bobby Curious is a son of an Avon Lady and a meat cutter who was raised in Wahoo, Nebraska and born on Leap Year’s Day. He is a singer/songwriter who performs originals as well as the widest variety of interactive cover songs on the acoustic guitar and ukulele. Solos are often accomplished on a harmonica, kazoo, whistling, or an attention-grabbing mouth horn/synthesizer. A set of his music can switch from background conversation music to engaging singalong favorites in a heartbeat.

Happenstancery Improv

  • Happenstancery’s signature style combines improvisational storytelling with a musical twist. They create interactive shows that engage the audience, encouraging them to embrace their imaginations and embrace the “YES, and” principle.

    Founded by @Joseph_Anthony_Davis in the pandemic summer of 2020, an improv comedy troupe was born and based on free classes in New Paltz, New York, for adults. Happenstancery have performed at The Producer’s Club in New York City and the Beacon Bonfire Festival. This year, they are celebrating their 5th anniversary of free weekly Thursday classes! Heather Craig

  • Heather Theresa Craig is a multidisciplinary artist based in Margaretville, NY, working in performance, visual arts, and writing. Her work has appeared in The Chronogram, Art Bridge, and at The Jacob Burns Film Center. She has performed Off-Broadway and staged her show Barb Ross in The Joy of Painting? at The PIT, Brooklyn Comedy Collective, and Public Displays of Altadena.

    Heather’s work is influenced by her movement background, exploring somatic and primal themes. She studied cinematography at Drexel, acting at Maggie Flanigan Studio, and clowning at The Idiot School.

    After recovering from a traumatic brain injury in 2023, she became passionate about Polyvagal Theory and its connection to performing. She trained in Polyvagal Theory with Deb Dana, LCSW, and completed the Clown Teaching Program with Christopher Bayes’ Pandemonium Studios, creating The Polyvagal Clown, a trauma-informed class.

    A Rauschenberg Medical Emergency Grant recipient, Heather is dedicated to supporting the Chronic Pain and Illness community by integrating nervous system regulation into her art and education practices.
